Common Share Law and Legal Definition
Common share is a basic share in a for-profit corporation. It is a piece of ownership proportionate to the common shares held against the total shares issued. Generally, a common shareholder has voting rights and as they represent ownership, s/he will be entitled to a share realized from the sale of assets if the company is wound up or otherwise dissolved. A common share is also known as ordinary shares or common stock.
