Community Patent Convention Law and Legal Definition
Community Patent Convention is a 1975 treaty which recognizes the European Union as a single state for patent purposes. The full name of the treaty is the Convention for the European Patent for the Common Market. Pursuant to the convention, a patent applicant shall obtain patent protection in all European Union nations through a single blanket filing and examination procedure. On approval of the application, the European Patent Office issues a single Community patent.
