According to 49 CFR 195.2 [Title 49 – Transportation; Subtitle B Other Regulations Relating to Transportation; Chapter I Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Department of Transportation; Subchapter D Pipeline Safety; Part 195 Transportation of Hazardous Liquids by Pipeline; Subpart A – General], Computation Pipeline Monitoring (CPM) means “a software-based monitoring tool that alerts the pipeline dispatcher of a possible pipeline operating anomaly that may be indicative of a commodity release.”
