Consecutive Sentences Law and Legal Definition
Consecutive Sentences refers to jail sentences that must be served one after the other rather than at the same time. It is two or more sentences of jail time to be served in sequence. For example, if a defendant receives consecutive sentences of 15 years and 5 years, the total amount of jail time is 20 years. This is also termed as cumulative sentences or accumulative sentences.
