Consular Courts Law and Legal Definition
Consular courts refer to those courts held by the consuls of a country within the territory of another country. Usually, such courts function under the authority of a given treaty. Most of this courts exercise jurisdiction over civil cases and in some instance they exercise criminal jurisdiction. The exercise of criminal jurisdiction is subject to review by the courts of the home government. The provision for consular courts is codified at 22 USCS § 141. However, this system of courts got abolished in 1956.
