Controvert means to dispute, voice opposition to, or contest. It means to contend against or oppose in argument. This term is derived from the Latin term controversus. For example, The appellant’s counsel did not adequately controvert the allegations in the Reck’s pleadings. It is different from contravene, which means to defy or come in conflict.
