According to 31 CFR 360.2 [Title 31 -- Money and Finance: Treasury; Subtitle B -- Regulations Relating to Money and Finance; Chapter II -- Fiscal Service, Department of the Treasury; Subchapter B -- Bureau of the Public Debt; Part 360 -- Regulations Governing Definitive United States Savings Bonds, Series I; Subpart A -- General Information], converted savings bond means “a savings bond originally issued as a definitive bond that has been surrendered to us and converted to a book-entry savings bond to be maintained by Treasury solely as a computer record.”
