Corporal Oath Law and Legal Definition
A corporal oath is an oath made solemn by touching a sacred object, especially the Bible. It is an oath in which the affiant lifts an arm or touches the Holy Bible with his hand. The name ‘corporal oath’ is derived from the fact that it was the primeval usage for the party taking the oath to touch the corporal, or cloth that covered the consecrated elements. It is also known as ‘solemn oath’ or ‘corporale sacramentum.’
