The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a U.S. nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education. CCSSO was established to provide leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues to the members. CCSSO expresses member officials' views to civic and professional organizations, federal agencies, Congress, and the public. CCSSO helps the educational department heads by increasing their capacity to produce students ready to succeed as productive members of society.
