Covert Operations Law and Legal Definition
Covert operations mean a military, intelligence or law enforcement operation planned and executed to conceal the identity of the sponsor. It is often carried clandestinely outside official channels. However, they differ from clandestine operations in which emphasis is placed on the concealment of the operation itself. Covert operations have become an inherent part of American foreign policy since World War II. Covert operations aim to fulfill their mission objectives without any parties knowing who sponsored or carried out the operation.
