Criminal Justice Information System Law and Legal Definition
Criminal justice information system is a system including the equipment, facilities, procedures, agreements, and organizations accepted and adopted for the collection, processing, preservation, or dissemination of criminal history record information. It is a counterpart of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In each state the criminal justice information system is maintained by Department of Justice (DOJ). The operations of the system may be performed manually or by using electronic computers or other automated data processing equipment.
