Cultured Pearl Law and Legal Definition
According to 16 CFR 23.18 [Title 16 -- Commercial Practices; Chapter I -- Federal Trade Commission; Subchapter B -- Guides and Trade Practice Rules; Part 23 -- Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries] cultured pearl means the composite product created when a nucleus (usually a sphere of calcareous mollusk shell) planted by humans inside the shell or in the mantle of a mollusk is coated with nacre by the mollusk.
