Data Sharing Plan Law and Legal Definition
Data sharing plan means a brief description of how research data collected through the work conducted under large National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants will be distributed and shared with others having a valid purpose for access to the data. It provides for the expedited translation of research results into knowledge, products, and procedures to improve human health. Depending on the data collected and how the investigator is planning to share the data, the exact subject of the data-sharing plan will vary. Under the data sharing plan, the applicants who are planning to share data shall specify about the following:
the expected schedule for data sharing;
the format of the final dataset;
the documentation to be provided;
the mode of data sharing;
whether or not any analytic tools also will be provided; and
whether or not a data-sharing agreement will be required.
