De Idiota Inquirendo Law and Legal Definition
De idiota inquirendo is a Latin term which means “of inquiring concerning an idiot.” It is a writ directed to the sheriff to inquire whether a man be an idiot or not, and which must be tried by a jury or twelve men. Where the jury finds a purus idiota or an absolute idiot, the profits of his/her lands, and the custody of his/her person may be granted by the King to some subject, who has interest enough to obtain them.
