Debet Esse Finis Litium Law and Legal Definition
Debet esse finis litium is a legal maxim that means a legal suit should have an end. A law suit cannot continue in an infinite manner. There should always be an end for litigation. Law suits are to continue only in a proper method prescribed by the civil and criminal procedural laws. The appellate authorities hear appeals and review cases based on the question of law in dispute. Courts cannot spend more than necessary time for a single case because this will lead to pendency of law suits. To provide remedy at a last resort in matters regarding state laws there are the state Supreme Courts and in federal and constitutional matters the U.S. Supreme Court.
