Defense Emergency Response Fund Law and Legal Definition
Defense emergency response fund is a fund available for reimbursing the money that is applied by the Department of Defense for assisting natural or man-made disasters on a reimbursable basis. Usually, Department of defense provides such assistance including furnishing supplies and services, in anticipation of requests from other Federal departments and agencies and from State and local governments. But, in most cases, the fund is used upon a determination by the Secretary of Defense that immediate action is necessary before a formal request for assistance on a reimbursable basis is received.
