Department Service Law and Legal Definition
According to 31 CFR 29.302 [Title 31 -- Money and Finance: Treasury; Subtitle A -- Office of the Secretary of the Treasury; Part 29 -- Federal Benefit Payments under Certain District of Columbia Retirement Programs; Subpart C -- Split Benefits], department service or departmental service means “any period of employment in a position covered by the Police and Firefighters Plan or Teachers Plan. Department service or departmental service may include certain periods of military service that interrupt a period of employment under the Police and Firefighters Plan or the Teachers Plan.”
