Deputy Law and Legal Definition
Deputy is a person delegated or authorized by an official to act in place of another. A deputy always acts in the name of his/her principal. Therefore, the principal shall be responsible for the deputy’s acts. If any person is injured due to the deputy’s acts, then the deputy will be liable himself/herself for such tortuous acts. A special deputy is a person appointed for a specific purpose such as keeping the peace during a riot.
