Designated Biomedical and Behavioral Research Institution Law and Legal Definition
A designated biomedical and behavioral research institution means a biomedical and behavioral research institution that has a significant number of members of minority health disparity populations or other health disparity populations enrolled as students in that institution. It also includes individuals who are accepted for enrollment in the institution.
A designated biomedical and behavioral research institution assists their students in completing the program of education or training and to receive the degree. They recruit minority students to enroll in and graduate from the institution by providing means-tested scholarships and other financial assistance. They recruit to increase the number of minority or other members of health disparity populations serving in faculty or administrative positions at the institution. The term designated biomedical and behavioral research institution includes any health professions school receiving an award of a grant or contract from the secretary under 42 USCS § 293 for the purpose of assisting the schools in supporting programs of excellence in health professions education for under-represented minority individuals.
