Dipsomania Law and Legal Definition
Dipsomania refers to an uncontrollable craving for alcoholic liquors. It produces permanent mental disease amounting to insanity that relieves an accused of responsibility under the law.
The following is an example of case law defining dipsomania:
‘Dipsomania is an irresistible impulse to indulge in intoxication, either alcohol or other drugs--opiums.’ This mania or disease is classed as one of the minor forms of insanity. [Ballard v. State, 19 Neb. 609, 614 (Neb. 1886)]
