Direct Estoppel Law and Legal Definition
Direct estoppel is an estoppel by judgment. Parties to litigation are estopped from relitigating an issue already decided by the same parties on the same cause of action. Direct estoppel is applied where the issue was decided as part of a larger claim which was finally decided ie., preventing an issue from being redecided in another claim of the same lawsuit.
