Directorate of Science and Technology [DS&T] Law and Legal Definition
The Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T) is one of four major constituents of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that is aimed at creating advanced technology to support CIA’s missions. The head of DS&T is the CIA's Director for Science and Technology. The mission of DS&T is to attack national intelligence problems with effective targeting, bold technology and superb tradecraft. The functions of DS&T are :
to keep CIA informed of scientific and technological advances;
to carry out technical operations such as coordinating intelligence from reconnaissance satellites;
to supervise the monitoring of foreign media.
to create, adapt, develop, and operate technical collection systems; and
to apply enabling technologies to the collection, processing, and analysis of information.
