Dock Receipt Law and Legal Definition
Dock receipt is a provisional document issued by a maritime carrier to evidence the delivery of goods at the dock. The issuance of dock receipt makes the carrier accountable for the safe custody of the goods, and it becomes the source for preparing the bill of lading. Generally, a dock receipt permits the designated authority to accept a bill of lading, waybill, or any other transport document. This is also termed dock warrant.
