Domicile of Origin Law and Legal Definition
Domicile of origin is a domicile a person has from birth. It can be the home of an individual’s parents. The domicile of origin is the domicile which a child acquires by law, when s/he becomes an independent person by birth. A child born in a lawful wedlock takes the father’s domicile and a child born in an unlawful wedlock takes the domicile of the mother. The domicile of origin remains with an individual until another has been acquired by domicile of choice or domicile by operation of law. Domicile of origin is different from the accidental place of birth.
