Dose Commitment [Nuclear Regulatory Commission] Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 CFR 32.2 [Title 10 – Energy; Chapter I -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Part 32 -- Specific Domestic Licenses to Manufacture or Transfer Certain Items Containing Byproduct Material], dose commitment means “the total radiation dose to a part of the body that will result from retention in the body of radioactive material. For purposes of estimating the dose commitment, it is assumed that from the time of intake the period of exposure to retained material will not exceed 50 years.”
