Driver's License Law and Legal Definition
A driver's license is issued on a state-by-state basis and the right to drive is a privilege which may be revoked, suspended, or cancelled for failure to comply with state or municipal driving laws and regulations. However, federal guarantees of due process may apply to administrative drivers license proceedings. Federal law also impacts state driving laws through denial of federal funding to states that don't comply with federal guidelines. Driving is generally defined as operating the mechanism and controls and directing the course of a vehicle.
