Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Law and Legal Definition
Durable medical equipment (DME) refers to equipment that is primarily and customarily used for medical purposes and which can withstand repeated use. DME are ordered by doctors for use at home. It is not useful to a person in the absence of an illness or injury. Examples of DME are wheelchairs, walkers or hospital beds. DME used for home health services are paid under medicare part A and part B plans.
