Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier (DMERC) Law and Legal Definition
Durable medical equipment regional carrier (DMERC) is a private company with which all claims for durable medical equipment is submitted. DMERC also provides medical policy for coverage of speech-generating devices (SGDs). DMERC contracts with medicare to pay bills for durable medical equipment. There four main DMERC carriers are HealthNow New York, Administar, Palmetto GBA, and Cigna Healthcare. Each DMERC represents a specific geographic region of the country.
