Duration of Unemployment Law and Legal Definition
Duration of unemployment is the period or the length of time in weeks that an unemployed person had been looking for work. With regard to a person on layoff who is also counted as unemployed, duration of unemployment represents the number of full weeks s/he had been on layoff. The data do not include completed spells of unemployment. Duration of unemployment is generally looked into while granting unemployment benefits.
