Economics Research Service Law and Legal Definition
The Economic Research Service (ERS) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is the primary source of economic information and research from the USDA. The ERS conducts research programs to inform and improve public and private decision-making on economic and policy issues involving food, farming, natural resources, and rural development. The ERS is located in Washington D.C.
The ERS staffs highly trained economists and social scientists to conduct research, analyze food and commodity markets, produce policy studies, and develop economic and statistical indicators. The ERS conduct research programs and disseminates research and economic information that are useful to the USDA, other public policy officials, research community, media, trade associations, public interest groups, and the general public.
The ERS works through four divisions:
