Effusio sanguinis is a Latin term which means ‘the shedding of blood’. It refers to the punishment imposed for the shedding of blood. The authority to collect the fine imposed for effusio sanguinis was granted to many lords of manor by the Crown. It was also called as bloodwite, or bloodwit.
