Electronic Ankle Bracelet Law and Legal Definition
Electronic ankle bracelet is a device worn by an individual who has been sentenced to house arrest. It is semi-permanently attached to the ankle of such person who is under house arrest. The bracelet transmits a signal on regular intervals to a receiver located in the individual's home which is connected by a telephone to the police. If the bracelet wearer attempts to leave the house, the receiver notifies the police that the terms of the court order have been violated. It is generally used during level four probation, to ensure that the wearer stays at home during prescribed hours.
