Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) (Health Care) Law and Legal Definition
Electronic data interchange means the electronic exchange of routine business transactions and documents from one computer to another in a standard format, using standard communication protocols. All doctors, hospitals, health plans, and clearinghouses are to implement the federal EDI standards to standardize the transfer of health care information.
