Embracery Law and Legal Definition
Embracery is an attempt to influence a jury. This illegal attempt is by bribery, threats, or promises. It is a state and federal crime. The offense can be joined under the offense of obstructing justice. A person who commits the crime is called an embraceor. Embracery is a crime punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both. The accused person should have the intention to commit the crime. The intention to influence a juror should combine with the attempt to influence the juror. The words to influence a juror need only be communicated to the juror. It is not necessary that the words should be spoken directly by the embraceor.
