Employment Authorization Document Law and Legal Definition
The Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is a work permit which is available for spouses of principal visa holders of J-1, A-1, E-1, E-2 and L-1. This is considered almost as flexible as a Green Card. A form I-765 should be filed in order to get an EAD. This is a small, laminated card with photo ID approved by INS. EAD shall be given for Optional Practical Training, Economic Hardship, and Temporary Employment of spouses in J-2 status and also in certain other circumstances.
