Energy Independence and Security Act Law and Legal Definition
The Energy Independence and Security Act (“Act”) of 2007 governs the energy policy of the U.S. This Act is also known as CLEAN Energy Act. The purpose of the Act is:
1. to ensure greater energy independence and security;
2. to increase the efficiency of products, buildings, and vehicles;
3. to promote research on and deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options; and
4. to improve the energy performance of the Federal Government.
Major provisions of the Act provides for:
1. Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE);
2. Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS);
3. Energy Efficiency Equipment Standards; and
4. Repeal of Oil and Gas Tax Incentives.
