Equites Aurati Law and Legal Definition
Equites aurati is the name of knights who serves on horseback. Equites in latin means horsemen and aurati means golden or gilded. They were called "aurati" from the gilt spurs which they wore, and "equites" because they always served on horseback. This dignity was at first confined to military men, but afterwards it was conferred on men of the robe.
