Espousals Law and Legal Definition
Espousals is a promise between a man and woman to marry. The agreement must be mutual. They agree to marry in a future date. The contract is completed when the marriage takes place. Espousal is different from marriage. There are two types of espousal: One which takes place if man and woman promise each other that they will hereafter become husband and wife and the other if they declare that they take each other as husband and wife now, at this very moment.
