Extinct Species Law and Legal Definition
Species means a taxonomic class of plants and animals that are distinguished from other plants, animals, or organisms because of the special characteristics they possess. An extinct species is a species that no longer exists. They are species that have completely died out. For the purposes of the Endangered Species Act, extinct species are plant or animal species that are currently believed to be extinct.
