Flashpoint Law and Legal Definition
According to 46 CFR 110.15-1 [Title 46 – Shipping; Chapter I -- Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security; Subchapter J -- Electrical Engineering Part 110 -- General Provisions; Subpart 110.15 -- Terms Used in this Subchapter], flashpoint means “the minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off a vapor in sufficient concentration to form an ignitable mixture with air near the surface of the liquid, as specified by the appropriate test procedure and apparatus.”
