Forensic Toxicology Specialist Law and Legal Definition
A forensic toxicology specialist refers to a person certified by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT). Specialist certification requires at least a bachelor’s degree and requires education in biology, chemistry, pharmacology or toxicology, as well as professional experience. Persons holding a valid certificate of qualification issued by the board are entitled to use the designation ‘Forensic Toxicology Specialist of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology’ and the initials ‘FTS-ABFT’ whenever professionally appropriate. The certification as forensic toxicology specialist is valid for five years, and is renewable, according to standards and under conditions established by the Board.
