Formal Discovery (Divorce) Law and Legal Definition
Formal discovery in relation to divorce proceedings, refers to the process of gathering information through the use of formal methods such as submitting interrogatories, requests for the production of documents, or conducting depositions. This is contrary to the informal discovery in which the parties and/or their attorneys agree to voluntarily exchange whatever information is requested by letter or in some other informal fashion.
