Forum Rei Gestae Law and Legal Definition
Forum rei gestae means the forum or court of a thing done. By applying forum rei gestae, a suit is to be instituted in the place where the act is done.
The fact that a plaintiff was injured in a particular state gives the state an interest in the outcome of the controversy sufficient to overcome the public interest in a less congested court docket. In Minton v. Helena Marine Service, Inc., 147 Ill. App. 3d 491, 494 (Ill. App. Ct. 1986), the court held that “courts should be extremely reluctant to dismiss a case from the forum rei gestae merely because that forum's docket has a backlog”.
