Free-Standing Unit Law and Legal Definition
Free-standing unit refers to a mobile home installed on a home-owner's property to accommodate an elderly relative. The Federal National Mortgage Association encourages free-standing unit type of housing arrangement as part of a program to keep senior citizens in their homes or close to their children. Under such program, mortgage lenders make loans with favorable terms to senior citizens from a fund created by Fannie Mae.
