Fundamental Research Law and Legal Definition
According to 7 USCS § 6971 (Title 7, Agriculture; Chapter 98, Department of Agriculture Reorganization Research, Education, and Economics), the term "fundamental research" means ‘research that--/
(i) increases knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and has the potential for broad application; and
(ii) has an effect on agriculture, food, nutrition, or the environment.”
