Fuse Plug Levees Law and Legal Definition
Fuse plug levees refer to the possible flood spillways. The termed was used in the Mississippi Flood Control Act. Under the Act the lower points for possible flood spillways were designated as the fuse plugs Levees. The term was first used by the U.S. Supreme Court in United States v. Sponenbarger, 308 U.S. 256 (U.S. 1939). The term was used by the court as a result of the allegation periodically led the landowners to claim compensation for changes in the hydrology of river systems having a consequence on their lands.
