Inflict Law and Legal Definition
Inflict means to impose something unpleasant as a burden; to cause, as to produce injury by striking; to impose as punishment pursuant to sentence.
The term "inflict" does not necessarily imply direct violence. There is no more appropriate use of the word "inflict" than in connection with punishment; and "to inflict punishment" clearly includes imprisonment and involuntary restraint, as well as hanging, beheading or whipping. [Commonwealth v. Macloon, 101 Mass. 1, 23 (Mass. 1869)].
