Lack of jurisdiction means lack of power or authority to act in a particular manner or to give a particular kind of relief. It refers to a court’s total lack of power or authority to entertain a case or to take cognizance of a crime. The reason for lack of jurisdiction may be failure on part of the parties to comply with conditions essential for exercise of jurisdiction or that the matter falls outside the territorial limits of a court.
