Landed Immigrant Law and Legal Definition
Landed immigrant refers to an individual who has relocated and changed his/her permanent residence to a state where s/he does not have citizenship but has limited rights associated with residency. It can also refer to people who have been granted the right to live permanently in a state other than where they originally hold citizenship, by their new host state's immigration authorities.
The term landed immigrant is used interchangeably with permanent resident. Landed immigrant status is typically a condition precedent of an immigrant's application for citizenship.
