Lata culpa aequiparatur dolo means gross negligence is equal to fraud and intentional tort. Gross negligence is serious carelessness. The standard of ordinary negligence is the conduct one expects from a reasonable man. A concealed fault is also equal to a deceit. The maxim is applied for fixing civil liability. Persons are obliged under a contract to act according to the terms of the contract. Carelessness in their act will amount to lata culpa aequiparatur dolo.
